| Entertaining, I guess. Samuel L Jackson is obviously urban. Richard Roundtree is a function rather than a cameo. Christian Bale is a large-caliber bad - Jeffrey Wright is always watchable. Like the famous blaxploitation films of the 70s through the reward comes from a conflict of charisma. I found myself wincing while on the screen. You can take or leave the homeboyishness - I think it's really diluted to mainstream audiences. | Let me begin by saying that I have never seen anything related to the original shaft, but I am quite sure that this homage / remake does not do it justice. "Hub" obviously wants to be a cool action movie, but ends up being very mediocre in all aspects. The story is dull and predictable, and does not seem to be enough to fill an entire movie. The characters are extreme stereotypes, and come through stronger and more unpleasant as "cool" (as likely). The action scenes are terribly predictable and, furthermore, lack any creativity or suspense. You have seen, literally, this kind of action sequences hundreds of times before and often done much better. And finally, the DVD movie Shaft seems to take too seriously. If you have a crappy plot and characters such lame, you'd better introduce some humor to put everything in perspective. But that does not happen here. | Based on the original 1970 DivX film Shaft of the same name, the nephew of Detective John Shaft is out to find the witness of a racially motivated murder, but has disappeared without a trace. After Walter Wade, played by Christian Bale, jumping bail axis must find a witness who has justice. This is maybe not the most original concept and the movie: Shaft suffers a bit because of it. Director John Singleton makes a pretty good job of recreating the feeling of the original, especially in the first half. However, it lacks the advantage that it is necessary to complement the good performance of Jackson as the nephew of the original star, Richard Roundtree. Partly because of this, the DivX Movie Shaft begins to lose the slickness of the original in the second half of the plot and seems to have the second stage, the excess of violence and action.
