Jack Dodd was a London butcher who enjoyed a pint with his mates for over 50 years. When he died, he died as he lived, with a smile on his face watching a horse race on which he had bet, with borrowed money. But before he died he had a final request, 'Last Orders', that his ashes be scattered in the sea at Margate. The movie follows his mates, Ray, Lenny and Vic and his foster son Vince as they journey to the sea with the ashes. Along the way, the threads of their lives, their loves and their disappointments are woven together in their memories of Jack and his wife Amy

I saw this Last Orders movie for the first time recently and I was incredibly touched by it. There are four friends going to Margate to scatter the ashes of her late friend, Jack (and father of one of them), intertwined with a subplot of Jack's widow, Amy, reminding one of the four friends, Ray, on her late husband. There is great potential for excess sentimentalization Jack, but fortunately, the Last Orders Drama recalls the character of a poignant, humorous and heart warming in a way that is anything but SAPPY. The players have a great camaraderie, what you really believe that these characters are best friends, unlike the players trying to simulate in friendship. I especially enjoyed the scenes between Ray and Amy, played by Helen Mirren and Bob Hoskins, I think they both did some of the best acting I've seen in this movie. They were so incredibly natural in their portrayal of characters that I completely forgot that I was watching two actors act. They also had such wonderful chemistry on screen, appearing as comfortable with each other, because only people I've known for years, I wonder if the actors are friends in real life too. This is a moving film: Last Orders about the friendship that this relationship is very realistic on screen. Highly recommended!
I've seen this with my sister, who has a child with severe disabilities. Our father is in hospital, possibly for the last time. So as you can imagine, I was not necessarily in the best mood, but do not have to get to the tissues. Brilliant performances in all, as one might expect from the likes of Michael Caine, Helen Mirren, and the rest, even the younger players who play the characters in their previous lives are convincing - they should be proud of having this in your CV! A group of four men to take the ashes of a fifth to be thrown off the pier at Margate, in accordance with their wishes (The Last Orders "of the title). Above all, remember that he and his interactions with him. Many secrets are revealed and a mystery is cleared up during the trip. All in all that serves as a eulogy for the dead man, showing a portrait of his life with all its hopes and disappointments. And I am sorry if people across the Atlantic have to use subtitles, but we have the same problem here too - for example, when watching Billy Bob Thornton in "Slingblade" had terrible problems trying to understand to begin his speech until I 'in line', if you do a little effort worthwhile.
This is a wonderful and warm and human film, perhaps, a "type of DVD movie Last Orders as opposed to the many" girls movies. " How can you lose with a great cast? Helen Mirren. Bob Hoskins. Michael Caine. They do a wonderful job in the history of old friends, devastated by the loss of one of their group. If I have a criticism, is the abuse of flashbacks. There even are flashbacks within flashbacks. It's still fairly easy to track the total effect is one of choppiness. But the story is warm, solid performance and a bonus is the many scenes in and around London. The British, unlike Hollywood, does not require that everything be beautiful and the sun always shines. Helen Mirren is excellent once again as a woman beyond the prime of life. Hollywood would be tarted up. And there are a lot of gray skies and rainshowers. (Hey, this is England, after all) a very thin film, which obviously was a labor of love.
It is curious to read the comments of those who have not understood perfectly balanced DVD movie Last Orders - but then it's smart and subtle and, in addition to being sad and moving is very funny. Rarely have I seen characters, situations, attitudes and emotions more balanced than in this brilliant jewel of a film. It took me right back to Pom, and in particular the best and most understated pleasures of the place. There were so many treaties sensitivity plots and sub-themes that are difficult to select a special commendation. I think that would be adultery.
This is the action of a higher order of British dream cast. The pace is slow, sad tone, the trip well worth it. Why no Oscar nominations? This is so des-Hollywood, is a balm for adults who want to see the cream of British talent.
Funeral / memorial services are probably the last place you want to be a friend after his death. The sites at which to hang out with the monuments that best resembles a cemetery or a tombstone. And perhaps that is where the spirit really lies. Last orders a voice is soft and beautifully touching DVD film Last Orders about the unity of dispersal of the ashes of a departed friend. Detours to the bars, a monument to the fallen and the area where he and his wife met stirred memories of the son and three friends left to carry out. Enduring friendship, loyalty, laughter and support on issues of their lives together. And, in an American film, this could become a series of flashbacks SAPPY - Bob Hoskins, Helen Mirren, Michael Caine, Ray Winstone and perform with all the subtle grace of traditional British cinema. Last orders is well worth seeing for anyone.
