This episodic story of Iris Murdoch, best-selling novelist, and her husband John Bayley, is not for the faint of heart. There are no illusions that seem to exist and are shattered by the harsh reality. The DivX film Iris pulls no hits, showing self-absorbed as Iris, a flow of awareness that women are ill with Alzheimer's disease. Her husband, in sickness and in health, it seems always a step behind her. However, is enthralled with her - and, ultimately, just totally dedicated. However, this portrait is beautiful and episodic, full of symbolism, flashbacks wonderful, and the threads of a relationship built and undone. The four leads are just wonderful, with Jim Broadbent deservedly received an Oscar for his performance. Superb photography, editing, directing and supporting the players and the great script. Highly recommended. I give it 9 out of 10.
"Iris" is too short. Wanted more information about Iris Murdoch before he descends into Alzheimer's disease (amazingly played by Judi Dench), with the exception of a few conferences, and more explanation about why the young Iris fixed on her husband. I have not read the memoirs of her husband, it is possible that because the books and hence the Iris Drama movie is his view that we can not enter the head of Iris youth, elderly, or befuddled. Most segments of young Iris again that Kate Winslet is a beautiful naked body (this was before or after your baby?) And I saw how he did enough otherwise to justify the award nominations. The young husband seems amazingly like the old Broadbent, so the flashbacks are completely smooth, and both are fantastic. It's nice to see the screen in a home as much of a mess like mine, full of reading material, but I think it was supposed to react negatively to the sight and not shout the British health services provide health aides in home? Overall, a very moving film, aided by the music of James Horner, especially nice for what a caregiver goes. (originally written 3/3/2002)
Iris seemed to be a brilliant Iris film that stirred a wide range of emotions inside me. I felt anger at Iris treatment of John, I felt sorry for John because of these, but at the same time as the admiration for John. Iris made me laugh and mourn. Iris me think about my own life, and I was incredibly scared that I might not have the "unconditional" love and support of someone to take care of me and that I can have such a difficult journey alone. Iris entertains and educates on Alzheimer's heartbreaking, and how Alzheimer's can strike even the most brilliant minds. A must see, but keep the tissues handy.
The film, with its interesting way to cross back and forth in time, we showed the evolution of the relationship between Iris and her husband / suitor Juan during a time when there is more change. Showed how their relationship was in the beginning, the young John tagging along the Wild Iris, although they would have accepted any kind of girl who talked to him, is happy that he even noticed. He accepted his first for the way it is to not lose, but finally accepts that his own way, because that is what makes her "her." Then we could see the old John and Iris, their relationship as strong as ever that was developed in part to its use of language to express every little thing that comes to your mind, and John always caring person, who in times of despair, provides more carefully the love that no one should under the circumstances. They were all working well, Winslet as the young Iris who was wild and carefree as the elder Dench Iris slowly losing his mind, Hugh Bonneville as the young John, who along the wild ride of Iris hitch and is often confused about their role in relationships, and Jim Broadbent as the elder John, the acceptance increasingly younger John was older and had to deal with the deterioration of state or his wife. In the end, the most important thing is that I did not feel lost by a great writer, but by the loss of a loved one lifetime partner.
